Sleep Study

No one in our little family has been getting enough sleep lately.  I won’t name names but one of us has been staying up too late, waking up too early and getting hungry around 2 am.  On the bright side naps suddenly doubled in length to a glorious 90 minutes each.  I’ve been pouring over all of my child health books (not that this person is necessarily a child) trying to diagnose the problem.  Norah was kind enough to help.  One author postulates that naptime needs to be longer in order to improve night sleep – we’re thinking that isn’t the case here.  Another author suggests it is time to drop the morning nap.  We are currently in the testing  phase of the second theory, however, we are still exploring other options and open to suggestions.

New Dress April 18th

I made this dress for Norah hoping it would fit her this coming fall but she grew into it a little faster than expected.  Despite her expression in this picture I think she was happy with the dress.  She might as well be since she has to wear it regardless.

Cornell Vet School Open House

The Vet school at Cornell hosts an annual open house with cool exhibits and lots and lots of animals.  It was a baby’s touch-and-feel book fantasy come alive.  Norah heard about the event from her friend Lincoln who is a touch-and-feel enthusiast.  Lincoln was much more daring with the animals than Norah (he was probably trying to impress her) and even squeezed a big snake.  After we had petted many animals and thoroughly washed our hands, we headed over to the Cornell Dairy Bar for ice cream.  Norah cuddled up to Hillary and was rewarded with a generous amount of ice cream.

Easter

Easter weekend was warm and beautiful.  It was so sunny I had a hard time getting a decent picture of Norah with her basket – not that I’m complaining.

Spring Break

We had an eventful spring break and the more there is to blog about the more I procrastinate doing it.  We started off with an overnight trip to Cooperstown to see our friends Rachel and Adam Owens -- some of you might better remember Rachel as Rachel Hanseen since I still forget to use her married name most of the time.  It was a lot of fun to see them again and Cooperstown was beautiful.  We visited the Farmers Museum which is basically the original restored town in the spirit of Williamsburg or Nauvoo.

Monday my parents came to visit for a few days. I had hurt my back carrying Norah around up and down all the stairs in Alpha Phi for some inspections and I could barely walk.  I was really disappointed we couldn't go out and do a lot but it was actually great timing because I didn't need to pick up Norah or any toys while they were here.  My doctor suggested we get a better mattress (something we'd been meaning to do anyway) so we bit the bullet and bought one. I was terrible about taking pictures -- I didn't take ANY pictures while my parents were in town but at least my mom took some.

My parents left Thursday and we took off the same day for DC. We had lunch with Ashley and spent the rest of the weekend with Bryan's family.  Bryan's parents had bought a highchair and toys for Norah to play with while we were there which was really nice.  She loved playing with the new toys and she looked adorable on their rocking horse.  Again -- I failed to capture the moment but it was fun.  Susan took me to a great Quilter's store and I've been sewing baby quilts all week with my new fabrics -- which is probably the biggest reason for the delay in this post.
