Washington D.C. Day 3

 Day 3: We rented bikes from Bike and Roll and tooled around the mall. So much better than walking!

I was caught off guard by how moved I felt at Lincoln's memorial

After seeing the Lincoln memorial we realized we just had fifteen minutes before our timed entry at the American History museum. We biked through Constitution Gardens seeing the Vietnam and Vietnam Women's Memorial along the way. We met up with Guy, Susan, Greg and Taylor (who'd patiently waited for us to grab lunch) at the museum. Poor Freya had accidentally stepped in a puddle soaking her shoe and had biked a few blocks with one barefoot (her decision, not ours). We persuaded her to put on said wet shoe and enjoyed seeing the Ruby Slippers, Clara Barton's ambulance, The Girlhood exhibit, the Star Spangled Banner and Julia Child's Kitchen. Oh! And the Batmobile! The girls were pretty wiped out after all that but they rallied for another bike ride over to the tidal basin where we enjoyed resting on the steps of the Jefferson Memorial. We had aspirations to visit the MLK and FDR memorials but alas, we'd already pushed the girls (one in particular) past their limit.  We settled for viewing Dr. King from a distance before biking back to L'Enfant Plaza to return our bikes. 

We saw Marine 1 pass over the tidal basin. I didn't get a picture of it but I did get a picture of this helicopter.
